Our tuition services

A Plus Tutors provides a diverse range of expert tuition services, from preparing children for 11 Plus and other School Entrance Exams to supporting children who need help with literacy and numeracy.

Wirral 11 Plus, Upton Hall and St Anselm's entrance exams

There are currently 6 Secondary Schools on Wirral which require children to pass an entrance exam. 4 Grammar Schools use the same Wirral 11 Plus test, while Upton Hall and St Anselm's each have their own exams.

Our preparation for each of these tests generally begins about a year in advance, at the start of year 5, but we also offer skills booster sessions from year 3 onwards as well. Sessions are conducted in small groups of 2-3 students and focus on building accuracy and speed as well as familiarisation with the tests. Children are continually assessed and undertake regular practice tests as well as having the option to partake in full mock exams.

We recommend that each child on our program undertakes a two-week assessment, the cost of which is refunded when booking a block of sessions with us. This allows us to assess the specific strengths of each child and make appropriate recommendations.

We can also offer help with entrance exams for schools in other areas and have previously helped students with preparation for Bluecoat School in Liverpool, Altrincham Grammar, King's School Chester, Birkenhead School and the 11 Plus for Grammar Schools in the Kent area.

Literacy and numeracy support

A Plus Tutors can help support the Primary level National Curriculum in core areas of literacy and numeracy, boosting the confidence and understanding of our students. This can be about extending the abilities of high achieving students as well as encouraging more reluctant learners.

Tuition sessions are held in small groups of 2-3 students and we can put a program in place on a short-term basis to focus specific topics or longer term support. We can also offer specific sessions to prepare students for the Standardised Assessment Tests (SATs) taken towards the end of Primary School in Year 6.
